The Message of Imam Hussain (a.s.) is echoing beyond the plains of Kerbala; Imam's call on the day of Ashura "Is there a helper who would help me?" was not just for the day of Ashura in 61 A.H. but it is a call for us today as well as for the future generations to come.
As long as there is oppression and injustice in this world, the mission of Imam Hussain (a.s.) to fight injustice and oppression will be alive. It was Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his family who gave up all they had to uphold the truth.
How are we, in our daily lives, answering the call of Imam Hussain (a.s.)? How are we fighting injustice? Or what should we do to claim to be the true followers of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and Sayyada Zainab (a.s.)?
Below is how Shia Sisters are responding to the call of Imam Hussain.

I think it is important to read and learn about the lives of the Masoomeen (14 infallibles). It is also important to know Islamic Jusriprudence, atleast the basics, what I try to do before I make a decision is ask myself "what would Imam Ali, Imam Husayn or Lady Zaynab do in this situation?"

A. THE MESSAGE
Over one thousand three hundred and fifty years ago, on the 10th of
Muharram, just before 'asr, a man stood on a sand-dune at Kerbala. He
was bleeding from several wounds on his body. He had lost everything.
Since early morning he had carried several dead bodies into his camp.
He had even buried his infant child.

Imam Husayn's(a.s) message plays a big role in my beliefs and actions.
I am not afraid to stand up
for my religion because of how stongly Imam Husayn has stood up for it.
He taught us not to be afraid
to stand up even if it means losing the ones you love most. Even after
1400 years his message
still reaches thousands of people. And his sacrifice reminds me that
I should appreciate what he
has done for us and that reminds me not to sin. May God bless the martyrs of Karbala. |

His death ensured that the Prophet’s Islam was preserved- the Islam that the shias practice. His battle with the enemy and is subsequent death should be a lesson to all mankind that Allah should always be the centre of our live. We should learn to be more spiritual and less materialistic.

Whenever I drink water, I think of Imam Hussain and his family; how they weren't given any water to drink, how they sacrificed their lives to keep the message of Islam alive for us. I also try and recite the Dua Before Drinking Water:

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Blessings of Allah be on
Imam Husayn, his family
and his friends
The Anger of Allah be on his killers
and his enemies. |

Every Muharram I hear the call of Imam Hussain “ Hal min nasiray yansurna” Is there anyone there to help me and when I hear it I wonder, am I answering his call or am I too busy in my own life to think about what my Imam would like me to do?
Imam Hussain stood up against Yazid because he was an oppressive, tyrant and unjust ruler. He used to distort the truth about Islam, he used to oppress his people and commit atrocities against them. The universal call for help was directed at us, his shias. So was Imam Hussain calling us to help him fight oppression?? If so then how do we answer his call?

Husain the Righteous refused to bow to worldliness and power
Tu barae wasl kardan amadi;
Ni barae fasl kardan amadi.
"Thou camest to the world to unite, not to divide."
There is of course the physical suffering in martyrdom, and all sorrow and suffering claim our sympathy, ---- the dearest, purest, most out flowing sympathy that we can give. But there is a greater suffering than physical suffering.

Muharram is a sad month as we are mourning for Imam Hussain (A.S.) And his family, so We don't buy new clothes and do fun things like celebrate a birthday or wedding etc...
In Muharram I also go to the mosque with my family. In the mosque we listen to marshia, then to majlis adn then we do maatam. After that we eat niyaz of Imam Husain(a.s.).
